Non Price Justification:

Performance Metrics: In order for laboratory members to remain effective in crime lab positions they must continue to keep abreast of the current literature, advances & trends within the forensic sciences. The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD LAB) sites continuing education as an integral part of the quality assurance program of any laboratory. "Accreditation is part of a laboratory's quality assurance program which should also include proficiency testing, continuing education, and other programs to help the laboratory give better overall services to the criminal justice system." With the requested funds, the Bureau of Forensic Fire and Explosives Analysis will allow its management and technical staff to participate in continuing education training opportunities during the year. The funds requested will be used for registration fees, workshop fees, professional journal renewals, purchase of external proficiency tests, ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation and surveillance fees.

Financial Consequences: Penalties for untimely submissions or failure to provide required reports/information. Payments to the Subrecipient (including payments under future awards) may be withheld, or other related requirements may be imposed, if required information and reports are not submitted within the specified time periods.
